Overland.

In January this year I hiked the Overland Track in Tasmania, Australia with Susie, Mardi & Thomas. We took 7 days, camping & hutting.
It is a crazy beautiful hike and I recommend it to anyone & everyone. It was the closest I’ve ever felt to being in a place untouched by humans.
Captivating beauty anywhere you look at all times. Zero impact policy meant no rubbish bins anywhere. You take out everything you take in – food scraps, wrappers etc. – No hair products / shower products to be used anywhere. Baby wipes only if need be, then pack your used ones and take them
with you. DO NOT STEP OFF THE PATH. Need to shit? get out your shovel. Follow guidelines for correct depth of hole – All worth it when you look around and all you can see is nature how it should be.

This is a selection of some of my 35mm photographs taken on a Zeiss Ikon along the way.

Sleepy Tea – The Place Where We Lay

Sooo ridiculously happy with how my double exposure photograph turned out on the cover of Sleepy Tea‘s new EP ‘The Place Where We Lay’.

So happy / proud to have been a part of such an awesome musician’s journey.

Check it out and listen to it HERE – it sounds fukn awesome.

Hiatus Kaiyote.

Last month I traveled across 2 deserts in central Australia co-producing & shooting
my first ever film clip for the song ‘Nakamarra’ by Hiatus Kaiyote.

The band, Si (fellow producer, band manager) and I all travelled together swimming in
oasis waterholes, writing off a hire van, camping under thousands of stars, eating camel burgers.
One of the raddest trips I’ve ever done for sure.

It just premiered on Tone Deaf this morning.

Let me know what y’all think. I’d love to hear some feedback.

Nakamarra.

I recently helped to shoot a clip for Hiatus Kaiyote, a neo soul future beats band from Melbourne Australia.
We shot it while traveling from Adelaide to Alice Springs (the quintessential ‘outback’).

Orion from The Native Press lent me his Mamiya rb67 medium format monster and I snapped
some pics in between video shooting sessions. Shooting 6×7 negatives is addictive.
once you go to that quality shooting 35mm is almost annoying.
(and here i am, the medium format converted show pony blabbing away!)

I’ll totally post the finished clip on here when it’s done.
I’ll also sort through the digital pics I took and post some of those
(hopefully before the years out)

Film = Kodak Portra 160.

Wowsersz.

I recently acquired a Mamiya rb67 medium format camera. It’s pretty epic / hard to shoot really quickly because of how much shit is involved in taking one picture (pull out this film curtain, cock the mirror, blah blah blah). BUT IT’S WORTH IT. My goodness I got the films back and I just about pooped all over my lounge room. The film used in these photos is Kodak Portra 400.

I expect to be taking a lot of photographs on this camera including shoots I have coming up.

p.s. check out my TUMBLR , I’ve been spending a lot of time over there lately instead of here (naughty).

Jessica Layla Powell-Thomas.

When I went to London for the month of May, I slip streamed behind this amazing woman.
General life, food, drinking, people, gigs & really good weed included. We grew up together
in a small tropical town called Cairns in Australia before eventually living together in the big
city of Brisbane. We hadn’t seen or spoken to each other in over 2 years but sure enough as
soon as we met up in Brighton, it was just like we never parted. Absolutely exploding everyday.

I think I got lucky while I was in London weather wise. 90% of the time it was hot & scrumptious.
People were tripping balls about the heat, laying out in parks drinking beers and wine, eating ok food.
I’ve definitely never appreciated green grass, hot sun, cider and a massive joint like I did in London.

Holly Ryan + Stephen Lance.

Recently I shot some stills on set for a B&W 3D short film collaboration
between jeweler Holly Ryan (who I’ve been shooting for a bit lately) and the INCREDIBLE
director Stephen Lance. It features Meaghan Spencer (looking like she has landed from
another planet) eerily adorning armour designed & made by Holly – That’s all I can say for now.
(because I have no fucking idea what it’s going to look like)

Floating.

HOLY SHIT IT’S BEEN A WHILE!

I’ve been floating around big-time this last month. I headed over to the USA with the Emma Louise crew to play drums
on her SXSW / L.A. tour. What an incredible journey that was … took me about 2 weeks to come down from that!
I worked with the amazing Holly Ryan again, this time to shoot her Zephyr Campaign. That was incredible. (photos coming soon)
I also got to shoot stills on set for a 3D short film colaboration between Holly Ryan and the INCREDIBLE director Stephen Lance.
I’ll post a heap more pictures from those shoots soon, but for now here’s a bunch of
photos from 2 rolls of film I had developed the other day.

Personal favourite is the stock standard Los Angeles CA. palm tree shot,
cause just when I was about to take it an LAPD chopper flew into the frame!

They’re all shot on a Nikon FM2.
Pics 1-4 are Kodak Portra VC.
Pics 5-8 are expired Agfa color.
